Ramakrishna said that the temple should be built in West Bengal, in “Kalisthan” the land of Kali , between the temple of Nakuleshwar Shiva at Kalighat and Dakshineswar Shiva at Ariadaha. This is the Mother Theresa hall, large enough to feed two thousand people in long rows on the floor each day. Sri Ramakrishna had predicted that after the establishment of this temple, there would be a new religious stir in the country, starting in Bengal. This is my religion. They said that the statue was alive, and that its eyes were sparkling. The main temple of Adyapeath is unique in both its architecture and its symbolism.

Towards the end of his life, Annada had a dream vision of Ramakrishna, who told him that his life would soon end. Funds are often donated for specific purposes: She cried the next day, but let him leave Chittagong. People in the vicinity heard about it and came to see it.
Annada awoke finding himself being cared for by a sadhu, who told him to stay alone and meditate for three days. The first was on the back of a large swan, with a golden mmaa and gems in the walls. A ma encounter with a sadhu confirmed that the image had indeed originated in antiquity, in a temple in the district of Gaya. The sadhu had received a dream command to save the goddess’ statue, and take it to Bengal.
Adyapith Adya Ma
As ada of Her miraculous appearance spread, devotees came from all over the city to make offerings. He got up and locked the statue in a trunk, and again fainted. He did so, and had a dream revelation. Adyapeath sponsors pujas and prayers, and they open up their triple statue to public view twice a day- for a half hour in the morning, and a half hour in the evening.
He lived mostly with friends, as a sort of informal house priest, adyya he would pray for the good of the household. A later encounter with a sadhu confirmed that the image had indeed originated in antiquity, in a temple in the district of Gaya.
Like the temple itself, the main altar also takes a very unusual configuration: In one case, when a child fell ill, he used the goddess’ technique of coercion. However, adyaa are very convenient, and in many urban areas have daya over the areas which used to hold larger altars and statues.
Only brahmins work in the temple. One year later, Annada Thakur died. Her form was that of the goddess Kali. They took my picture for worshiping; but they left it in a most wretched condition; how can they avoid the consequences thereof?
A Biography of Annada Thakur
His wife oversaw work on the temple, and added a Matri Ashram for elderly woman renunciants. However, he graduated Ayurvedic college, though he never practiced as a doctor. There, at the bottom of a pond, Annada and three companions found the image. There, as far as anyone knows, She remains today.
Judging the image to be very ancient, from the Bhuddistic period, they offered a large sum of money for it, which Annada refused. He did so, and hid it in the jungle which later became Eden Gardens.
Dakshineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapeath
Though covered with mud it was intact. Some of them told him to keep the statue and get money from the people who would visit it, and some museum representatives came and said that the statue was ancient and from Buddhist times, but he refused to give it to any of the museums.
Ramakrishna on the bottom, Adya Ma in the middle, and Krishna and Radha on the top, encircled by the sacred syllable om.
Even prostitutes wept when they offered flowers to Her. You gained fame through your manners and dignity While Annada Thakur had stated that Adya Shakti Kali herself had wanted worship through her photograph or “photo-bhakti” as one person phrased itclearly the tradition of worshiping via statues is preferred by many Shaktas.
You have given your life in sacrifice. Before his death, however, ayda wrote his remarkable story in the Bengali book Swapna-Jeevana, arya translated into English as A Life of Visions. Today, hundreds of pilgrims and devotees visit the temple daily, and its charitable outreach serves many hundreds of needy people.
He was fed with the goddess’ food by his friends, but his mind was elsewhere.
